Net Zero 2050 Plan

1. Company Commitment

TREECO LTD is committed to achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest. This plan outlines how we will reduce emissions across our operations and supply chain, minimise environmental impact, and contribute positively to climate action while continuing to provide high‑quality arboriculture and vegetation management services.

Our baseline emissions will be measured using recognised methodologies aligned with UK guidance for carbon reduction planning.

2. Baseline Emissions and Measurement

We will calculate our baseline carbon emissions for the first reporting year (e.g., April 2024 – March 2025), covering:

  • Scope 1: Direct emissions from company vehicles and machinery used on site.

  • Scope 2: Emissions from purchased energy for offices or depots.

  • Scope 3: Indirect emissions including subcontractor transport, waste processing, fuel supply, and business travel.

These will be recalculated annually to track progress and inform reduction targets.

3. Emission Reduction Targets and Timeline

To meet our 2050 Net Zero commitment, we will work toward interim targets:

By 2030

  • Reduce Scope 1 emissions by transitioning to low‑emission or electric vehicles where practical.

  • Begin replacing petrol/diesel‑powered tools with low‑carbon alternatives as technologies mature.

By 2040

  • Reduce Scope 2 emissions through cleaner energy procurement or renewable energy tariffs for depots and office spaces.

  • Expand sustainable procurement policies to include low‑carbon suppliers.

By 2050

  • Achieve Net Zero by eliminating or offsetting residual emissions not technically reducible through internal measures alone.

4. Reduction Actions

Operational Improvements

  • Adopt fuel‑efficient route planning and driver training to reduce vehicle emissions.

  • Regular maintenance schedules to optimise machinery efficiency.

  • Trial and phase in battery‑powered or hybrid equipment as technology becomes viable.

Energy Use

  • Investigate onsite renewable energy options at main facilities.

  • Switch to low‑carbon energy suppliers for electricity and heating.

Working Practices

  • Reduce unnecessary travel through remote planning and digital communication.

  • Promote sustainability awareness and carbon reduction behaviours across the team.

Supply Chain

  • Work with suppliers who share environmental commitments.

  • Evaluate subcontractors’ environmental practices and encourage lower‑emission solutions.

Waste and Recycling

  • Maximise green waste recycling from tree work and site clearance activities.

5. Offset Unavoidable Emissions

Where emissions cannot be feasibly reduced, we will invest in high‑quality carbon removal or offset initiatives, ensuring they meet recognised standards for permanence and verification.

Where appropriate, we will support tree planting and habitat restoration projects that offer genuine carbon sequestration and align with our core expertise and values.

6. Reporting and Governance

TREECO LTD will report progress annually on our website and in relevant tenders, including:

  • Annual emissions inventory.

  • Progress against interim targets.

  • Key initiatives implemented in the reporting year.

Progress and the overall Net Zero strategy will be overseen by senior leadership and reviewed annually to ensure ongoing improvement and accountability.

7. Stakeholder Engagement

We will communicate our Net Zero plan to clients, partners, and suppliers and encourage collaborative efforts to reduce emissions across the sector. We aim to set a positive example in the arboriculture and landscaping industry by integrating sustainability into everyday business practices.

Declaration:
TREECO LTD formally commits to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050, and to transparently reporting progress toward this goal as part of our ongoing environmental responsibility.
